Ready. Set. Sleepover! ![]()

During the July holidays, we hosted our annual two-day Holiday Camp. Thirty hours of action, laughter, learning, and growing in faith made it an unforgettable experience! The camp began with worship and a devotion reminding the children that they are God’s children—loved, valued, and uniquely created by Him.
Throughout the camp, the younger children learned practical skills such as personal hygiene, folding clothes, tying shoelaces, and brushing their teeth. Through the “God Made Me” activity, they were encouraged to recognise their individual strengths and talents. The children also enjoyed planting bean seeds, playing charades, and learning through the Bible story of David and Goliath that “God helps me be brave.”
The older children learned how to communicate professionally with adults, as well as courteous tips when using WhatsApp. During the career guidance sessions, they learned about SMART goals and tools to explore their strengths, and how these can help them with future career aspirations. A favourite session was learning basic first-aid skills—and the teenagers were fast learners! They even made their own little first-aid kits.
Team-building games—from creating their own team cheers to performing topic-related skits and dances—along with soccer, board games, and plenty of laughter, created opportunities for the children to work together. The older children were encouraged to help the younger ones, developing leadership, responsibility, and kindness.
The camp ended with worship, prayer, and a time of sharing what they had learned and what they were thankful for. All in all, it was a special time of learning, growing, and building confidence, whilst reminding each child that they are created by God for a unique purpose and with individual gifts.
A big thank you to all our amazing carers, volunteers, and sponsors who helped make this experience possible! And thank you to Junction Church for the use of your beautiful location.

A Warm Welcome To Our Newest Home-based Carer!
We are thrilled to welcome Keity to the Hlanganani family! She has taken on the role of overseeing the care and mentoring of six youngsters. The work we do would not be possible without the incredible care and dedication of our Home-based Carers (HBC). They regularly check in with the Hlanganani children assigned to them, either by phone or through in-person home visits.
Our HBCs ensure that the children are receiving adequate care from their guardians and have sufficient food, clothing, and school supplies. But their role goes far beyond meeting physical needs. They are prayer warriors, listening ears, shoulders to cry on, cheerleaders, and trusted guides—walking alongside each child and offering encouragement, support, and guidance when they need it most.
We are so grateful for the love and commitment they pour into the lives of our children!

Hope in the Midst of Struggle
We are delighted to welcome a new family to the Hlanganani family—a loving grandmother caring for her three young grandchildren. With all four of them living together in a single room, she has been struggling to make ends meet and provide for the children’s basic needs.
When they received their first Hlanganani food parcel, they were overwhelmed with gratitude and could hardly believe that someone had come alongside them to help. The family has been so happy to join Hlanganani, and we are grateful for the opportunity to support and encourage them as they journey forward together.

A Letter of Appreciation
Like all children, those under our care have field trips, camps, and fun days organised by their schools. However, due to the costs involved, our children are often unable to attend these events without additional financial assistance.
We are incredibly grateful to our sponsors, whose generous support has made it possible for our children to participate in many different school excursions this year—from Biology and Matric camps to visits to the Maropeng Centre, to name just a few.
These experiences provide our children with valuable opportunities to learn, explore, and make special memories alongside their classmates.
Below is a heartfelt thank-you letter from one of our young boys.

Saturdays That Make A Difference
One of our proudest moments this year has been the launch of our monthly tutoring programme. Every third Saturday of the month, learners from Grade 5 to Grade 12 come together for focused academic support. Our incredible volunteer team includes members of Junction Church and students from Lonehill International Academy—young people investing in and encouraging other young people.
The programme focuses on core subjects, with particular attention given to Mathematics and English, where many of our learners have struggled. Working in small groups allows each child to receive individual attention—not simply help with homework, but support in building strong foundations, understanding difficult concepts, and developing confidence.
The change has been remarkable… Consistency is paying off!
Many of our learners have improved their Mathematics marks from the 20–30% range to 50–60%, while others have moved from 30–40% into significantly higher ranges. We have also seen encouraging progress in English, with learners reading, writing, and participating in class with greater confidence.
But it isn’t only about the marks. Teachers are reporting better participation, improved homework completion, and children who are now believing in themselves and their ability to do Math. That is the power of consistent support. By showing up every month, our volunteers are sending a powerful message to these children: You matter. Your education matters. And we believe in you.
A big thank you to Junction Church and the Lonehill International Academy for investing not only your time and skills, but also hope and confidence in the next generation.
Together, we are helping close the gap—one child, one lesson, and one Saturday at a time.

A Significant Improvement in Food Security
Each year, around September, we ask the children in our care to complete an evaluation form. Their responses help us understand where we are making a difference and where further support is needed. One of the questions we ask is: “I have enough food to eat.” The children can choose from three responses: “Every day, for every meal,” “Sometimes, we have food, but not a lot,” or “Sometimes we have to miss a meal.”
We are encouraged to see a significant improvement in the responses this year.
Last year – 2025
56% said they had enough food every day, for every meal.
44% indicated that they did not always have enough food.
This year – September 2026
79% said they have enough food every day, for every meal.
21% said they have food, but sometimes not a lot.
0% reported having to miss a meal.
This represents a 23-percentage-point increase in the number of children reporting that they have enough food every day. While there is still work to be done, we are so encouraged by this progress. It is a tangible reminder that the practical support provided through Hlanganani is making a meaningful difference in the everyday lives of our children.
Thank you to all our partners who help make this possible.

A heartfelt thank you to all our wonderful partners who continue to stand alongside Hlanganani and invest in the lives of the children we serve. Your generosity, encouragement, and support make a meaningful difference. Every contribution, big or small, helps us provide opportunities that enable our children to grow, thrive, and look forward to a brighter future.
We truly appreciate each and every one of you!
